A Birthday Reflection

I am beginning another year of life today with joy in my heart. Four decades (and some extra) I came into the world weighing 2 pounds and I’m still making noise. For this blog post, I decided to share my top five lessons that I’ve learned from the previous year…

Lesson Number 5: Turn Down the Noise

Many of the missteps in life occur because we don’t take the time to listen to our own instinct. The world runs off of noise and overstimulation. Learn to break away and clear your head before making moves. You already know what you need to do within. Quiet the noise so that you see what is best for you.

Lesson Number 4: Every Door Isn’t for Everyone

Don’t be afraid to say no. Every opportunity isn’t YOUR opportunity– and you have to know the difference. People will keep pulling on you, especially when you’re gifted and have a good heart. Don’t fall into the trap of running yourself into the ground for people to sing your praises. It is well within your right and responsibility to decline.

Lesson Number 3: Appreciate Your Tribe

Loyalty is rare. When you find people that accept you and receive you as you are, hold on to those people with both hands. Every one in your life isn’t a taker; some people earnestly want to love you and love on you. Give yourself the permission to receive from those who see you and value you. We are stronger when we are supported.

Lesson Number 2: Keep Hope Alive

Things work out the way they are going to work out. Never lose hope in the unseen beauty of the universe to resolve all things in the best way possible. It all works together in time. In dark times, always trust that order will be restored. Things will be reset. Trust the journey.

Lesson Number 1: Find Your Own Path

No one is responsible for your journey but you. Don’t allow people to dictate your path for you. Find what works for you and follow it. People may suggest ideas but in the end, only you know what is beneficial for your spiritual well-being. Do your own research and find your way to wholeness. God is present in the mystery and uncertainty. Use your inner witness to guide you. It will never lead you down the wrong path.
