Confessional No. 1

I am an imperfect being. I can admit that without any reservation. Of course, I know that I’m not alone- for none of us are perfect- but since I have the “mic”, I am going to talk about myself. It has been about a year since my last public posting and I have no one to blame but myself. Currently, I don’t have much of a following (so I’m not expecting anyone to have missed my writings)– but I haven’t been on my “A” game. I’ve not been doing my job- what I love.

And frankly, I think that is what is most disheartening about my absence. Writing is what I love to do. Inspiring others is a joy for me. Yet, for about a year, I’ve allowed my lack of a following rob me of what I enjoy doing. Blogging for me isn’t about the people inasmuch as it is about sharing my gift with the world. Through all of the despair that I have personally experienced, I still have the unique ability of helping others to see, “Trouble don’t last always.” The fact remains my purpose in life is to help others find strength to keep pushing even when they want to give up… and this space- this blog- is how I accomplish it. Whether people follow or read or subscribe or not… I cannot run away from my gift.

Perhaps one day in the distant future someone will stumble across this page when they are at their lowest and find the push they need to keep going… Should that happen, then my job will be done.

“Whatever your task, put yourselves into it, as done for the LORD and not for your masters” (Colossians 3:23, NRSV). It is so easy to get caught up in the applause of the crowd but the crowd should never be our aim. Sure it feels good when they are cheering for us and celebrating us, but frankly, the people should never be the focal point. Our gift and abilities are more about us than it is about them.

Our fulfillment and joy comes from what we share with the world, not from the praise the world gives to us…
